Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
Chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS), also known as M.E., is characterised by prolonged debilitating fatigue severe enough to interfere with a person's normal life, and multiple nonspecific symptoms which can include:
- Headaches
- Recurrent sore throats, tender glands
- Muscle and joint pain
- Mental fogginess
- Unrefreshing sleep (still tired on waking up)
- Flu like feelings
It can take a long time for a doctor to diagnose CFS because a host of other causes have to be ruled out first. CFS can affect any age group, but is most commonly seen in the early twenties to mid forties. About 1 in 1000 are affected in the UK, and it is twice as common in women.
The effect of CFS on a person's life can cause stress, anxiety, depression, self-directed anger, lack of self confidence and low self-esteem. It is in alleviating these effects that hypnotherapy can help you to cope with chronic fatigue.
